Frequently Asked Questions

What does “Liberal Catholic” mean?

“Liberal Catholic” refers to a form of Catholic Christianity that preserves the ancient sacramental and liturgical traditions of Catholicism while embracing a more open, inclusive, and spiritually exploratory approach than the Roman Catholic Church.

It is both Catholic in sacramental life and liberal in theology, governance, and inclusion.

Is TALCC more progressive or traditional in theology?

TALCC is progressive in its theology.

Do you ordain women?

Yes.

We affirm and practice the full inclusion of women in all orders of ministry, including:

  • Deaconess

  • Deacon
  • Priest

  • Bishop

We believe that vocation is discerned through the movement of the Holy Spirit and the gifts of the individual—not limited by gender. Women have served as spiritual leaders, pastors, teachers, and shepherds throughout Christian history, and we honour and continue that sacred tradition today.

Do you ordain LGBTQ+ clergy?

Yes. We fully and joyfully ordain LGBTQ+ people to all orders of ministry.

We affirm that vocation is not limited by sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. Those who are called by God to serve as deaconesses, deacons, priests, or bishops are welcomed, discerned, and ordained based on their faith, calling, character, and readiness for ministry.

What is your position on same-sex marriage?

We fully affirm and welcome Same-Sex Marriages to all consenting adults.
